Play a part in the future of your local park

Residents in Islington are being offered free training, with top tips on how to help preserve the borough's parks. <br><br>The sessions tell people what they can do to help – from forming a "Friends of Parks" group, leading volunteering days, or becoming an active fundraiser for local green spaces.<br><br>The scheme's been set up with funding from the Islington Strategic Partnership – where the public sector, businesses and community groups work together. <br><br>Sessions include:<br>-How to run practical conservation events in your local park<br>-Basic and Emergency First Aid<br>-Fundraising workshops<br><br>Councillor Ruth Polling, Islington Council's Executive Member for Leisure and Equalities, said: "Residents are really proud of our parks and open spaces in Islington, and many already help on a volunteer basis to improve them. <br><br>"Our volunteers and Friends of Parks groups are a fantastic resource for Islington's community and we want to offer them support and offer a chance for others to get involved. <br><br>"Just a few hours can make a lot of difference, so we can continue to make sure our green spaces will be enjoyed by everyone in the future."<br><br>Anyone who's interested can call the Greenspace Support Services team to find out more information on 020 7527 4953 or 3288 or e-mail supportservices@islington.gov.uk <br>You can also find out more information by visiting http://www.islington.gov.uk/Environment/Parks/community_events/<br><br>
