Parents to help tackle gang culture

Parents of teenagers who have been involved in crime are due to help Islington Council tackle gang culture.<br><br>They are set to give evidence at the next meeting of the council's Commission on Young People and Safety in Islington.<br><br>Also speaking will be Frank McLoughlin, principal of City and Islington College, and workers from across London with specialist experience of tackling gangs.<br><br>The Commission was set up in response to the tragic death of Martin Dinnegan, who was stabbed and killed in June last year.<br><br>It aims to find ways of stopping young people from turning to gangs, and helping teenagers escape from the gang lifestyle.<br><br>Its next meeting - which is open to the public - takes place on January 22 at Islington Town Hall, Upper Street, Islington, N1 2UD at 7.30pm.<br><br>Anyone who wants to give evidence, or ideas, to the commission can do so by writing to the above address, or by emailing democracy@islington.gov.uk<br><br>Commission chairman Cllr Greg Foxsmith said: "We want to hear from anyone who can help us tackle gang culture, whether they are ex-gang members themselves, people who work with teenagers, or concerned members of the public.<br><br>"Together we can help stop gangs attracting more members - and damaging more lives."<br>ends<br>
