Islington Green School welcomes latest Ofsted report

Islington Green School's latest Ofsted report confirms that the school is well placed to improve, and this will be further supported when it becomes an Academy in September 2008.<br><br>Ofsted inspectors judged the school as satisfactory overall, with students' achievements and standards being good. Particular praise was singled out for the core subjects of English, maths and science, where inspectors noted some "outstanding" teaching.<br><br>Where areas for improvement are identified, the inspectors and the school are clear about the potential and methods for doing so.<br><br>Chris Walford, Headteacher, said: "We are delighted that this report recognizes the school's many strengths. There is a great deal of work to do to ensure that all aspects of the school are at least good. Our planning for this is well advanced as we move towards academy status. The exam results this year in Years 11, 10, 9 and 8 confirm the Inspectors' view that students here make good progress and enjoy good achievements." <br><br>Cllr Ursula Woolley, Islington Council's Executive Member for Children and Young People, said: "A lot of work has gone into improving Islington Green School, and planning for its future as an academy. Islington Green School has made considerable progress in recent years and everyone involved should be proud of that. I believe the academy is a real opportunity to raise further education standards and opportunities in Islington."<br><br>Islington Green Community School will be replaced from September 2008 with a new academy for pupils aged 11-19, on the same site in Prebend Street, N1. The academy will be sponsored by City University, London, and the City of London Corporation, and will be called the City of London Academy, Islington.<br><br>Ends<br>
