Officers from Islington Council's Noise Patrol, together with Islington Police and the City of London Police, brought an noisy gathering to a close this week.<br><br>The illegal event held during the early hours of Sunday 1 April meant Holloway Road had to be closed northbound while approximately 1,000 revellers, who been asked to pay £3 entry on the door, left the venue.<br><br>Islington Council's Noise Patrol team first heard of the event being held in the disused Man and Overton taxi premises on Holloway Road at 10pm on Saturday evening, when they received several calls from concerned residents living nearby.<br><br>The council's team arrived within 30 minutes, and when they could hear amplified music from a distance of 60m, they served a noise abatement notice with immediate effect. Together with the police, the noise team persuaded the organisers were to shut down the event, without needing to use a warrant to seize the music equipment.<br><br>Cllr George Allan, Executive Member for Customer Focus, Islington Council said:"Noisy parties can have a seriously damaging effect on residents' quality of life. <br><br>"Unlicensed events on this scale are not only anti-social but are potentially dangerous so I'm really pleased our prompt response with the police stopped this event as quickly as possible, without a serious incident."<br><br>ENDS
