Ashmount School -- the future draws nearer and clearer

Date: 23-Mar-07 by verity cork

Most people who responded to the council's recent consultation would like to see Ashmount School relocate to a new site at Crouch Hill.

Parents and residents were consulted between 6 December 2006 and 31 January 2007 on three possible solutions to the current problems of the school building. They were asked for their views on refurbishing the school, or building a new school in the same place, or relocating the school to nearby Crouch Hill.

Over 500 people responded to the survey and the results show that there is strong community support for relocation, with two thirds selecting this option. This support comes both from the school community and also from people without children at the school.

Cllr Ursula Woolley, Executive Member for Children and Young People, Islington Council, said: "I'm pleased that so many people took part in the consultation and very excited about the prospect of building a 'green' school on the Crouch Hill site, and bringing the park back to life at the same time. We will now work-up detailed plans for Crouch Hill but because these plans will have to be approved by the Mayor of London we also need to show that refurbishing the school on the existing site is not a sensible option. I am delighted that we can now get on to the next stage of this project"

Ends
