C Zone residents to see friends and family more

Date: 23-Feb-07 by verity cork

Residents using the borough's most southerly controlled parking zone (C Zone) can now get 80 hours' worth of visitors' vouchers a year - an increase of 50 hours.

Cllr Lucy Watt, Islington Council's Executive Member for the Environment, said: "When we asked residents about their parking needs, they told us that they wanted more vouchers to allow family and friends to visit them. So when we recently reviewed how parking is used in C Zone, we were pleased to find that we could offer residents even more visitors' vouchers.

"We are taking a common sense view of parking in the borough. Everyone already knows there is limited parking space available and it needs to be allocated and managed in a way that benefits residents and helps businesses. These additional vouchers for C Zone residents are just one of many changes residents are going to see to the way we manage parking."

Other common sense changes will include:

· In January this year, the number of full day parking vouchers available to residents was increased from five to 10
· If a driver returns to their vehicle just as their paid time has expired and before a parking attendant has fully issued a ticket, it will not be issued
· A Citizens' Panel has been established to help select the new parking enforcement contractor
· Training for parking attendants incorporates a common sense approach to issuing tickets
· Measures will be taken to make loading and unloading outside shops easier
· A new Common Sense Parking Guide will be published, to make parking policy open and clear
· A new Residents' Parking Charter will set out motorists' rights clearly and accessibly

Ends
