Islington Council actively supports local businesses - this was the message Islington Council Leader Cllr James Kempton delivered in a speech made this week to the Islington Chamber of Commerce.
Cllr Kempton said: "Being asked to speak to the Islington Chamber of Commerce is great recognition of the work Islington Council does to support local businesses. I was delighted to be able to talk about the successful partnerships being forged between local businesses and the council.
"In the Angel and Nag's Head town centres, for instance, the council works well with businesses through its locally-based Town Centre Managers to tackle problems around crime. We are also working closely with local businesses to create the Angel Business Improvement District, which will focus more resources on the area.
"The Islington Business Enterprise Team connects local small businesses with opportunities to supply goods and services to major developers in the borough. This started with the development of the new Arsenal stadium, and we are aiming to get £6 million worth of business to local companies over the next three years.
"It's important to me that local traders know the council offers them practical services and advice and, although I'm not promising always to say yes, I will listen carefully to the needs of local businesses."
