Islington Council's Early Years Service celebrated a bumper crop of childcare qualifications for staff and the community at an awards ceremony held on Tuesday 21 November.
Cllr Ursula Woolley, Islington Council's Executive Member for Children and Young People, said: "For the past 10 years the council's Early Years Service has done a superb job supporting staff to gain a range of valuable qualifications. The other important side to this is that Islington Council can help members of the community to gain childcare qualifications at the same time."
Over 200 people attended the ceremony at London Metropolitan University. Over 80 people received an award celebrating the achievements of all those over the past year who have gained childcare qualifications and quality awards.
James Evans, 22, of Morland Mews, N1, picked up his certificate for achieving a Level 1 Childcare qualification. He said, "I was volunteering at Barnard Park adventure playground when I found out about getting qualifications. I wanted to do something to help my career, and the funding I got made it possible. Since I got the qualification, I've got a new job too at a nursery."
