Islington Council is helping bringing empty properties back into use in an innovative scheme that offers first time buyers financial help with renovation and decoration costs. <br><br>The borough has got together with Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Westminster Councils in an innovative scheme that will offer up to £25,000 to those purchasing an empty property that has been abandoned or forgotten, to help repair the house to create a liveable home.<br><br>Cllr Terry Stacy, Executive Member for Housing and Communities, Islington Council said: "We know many people are prevented from making a home in Islington because of the cost or availability of property.<br><br>So this scheme - which shares the very high cost associated with repairing unliveable properties - is great news for first time buyers looking to develop neglected or unused properties into new homes. <br><br>And there's more good news for key workers - who may also be eligible for an additional £10,000 towards repairs or conversions."<br><br>Those interested in the scheme should contact the North London Empty Properties Scheme on 0800 953 6305.<br><br><br>Ends<br><br>
