Mildmay Grove clean up

Date: 25-Sep-06 by charles dean

Islington Council's street services team arrived in force at Mildmay Grove North and Mildmay Grove South on Monday 18 September with brooms, pressure hoses and secateurs for a big clean up.

As well as a general street clean, pavements were washed down, foliage cut back from the public highway and the Community Payback Team hoed down the pavements on Mildmay Grove North and South.

Local resident Carol Carney said "I think it's great the Council is doing something extra to help keep our streets clean. This makes a real difference and hopefully local residents can help to keep the streets cleaner from now on."

Lucy Watt, Executive Member for Environment, Islington Council said "Residents want to live in a litter-free borough and we want people to be proud of where they live.

THrough clean-up days, residents can help us keep their area clean and tidy by being more aware of what they can do and what council services are available to help."

Notes:

Community Payback is a scheme which manages offenders' Community Orders. Offenders carry out unpaid work to make reparation to local communities as part of the Safer Neighbourhoods programme.

Community Payback is run in a partnership between Islington Council's Street Environment Services, London Probation and the Metropolitan Police, to make a visible, sustainable difference to the local area.
