Islington Council has unveiled its new weapon in the war on graffiti - a purpose-built graffiti removal van.
This specialist vehicle contains the latest enhanced jetting technology that minimises water usage and is much quieter than older models and allows targeted and quick graffiti removal.
And in an environmentally-inspired innovation, the high pressure sprays are formulated on milk and orange juice.
Lucy Watt, Executive Member for Environment, Islington Council said:
"Graffiti is anti-social behaviour - pure and simple. It damages the quality of the street environment and people's quality of life in Islington.
This great new vehicle demonstrates our commitment to keeping Islington green, clean and safe."
Islington's approach to graffiti is a beacon of best practice in London - the borough is the first London Authority to be accepted into the Anti-Graffiti Association.
In the last eighteen months the graffiti response team have removed nearly 25,000m2 of graffiti (equivalent to the area the size of 20 Olympic swimming pools) acting on reports provided by residents and from proactive clean-ups.
Residents can help Islington Council by reporting graffiti to Contact Islington on 020 7527 2000 or using an online form at www.islington.gov.uk
The council aims to remove offensive graffiti within 24 hrs and non-offensive graffiti within 5 working days of it being reported.
