Islington Council

Argentina v Brazil - Islington set for Latin American Battle of the Titans

Date: 30-Aug-06 by charles dean

Following Arsenal's matches with Dinamo Zagreb and Ajax, the club's new Emirates Stadium will this weekend host a capacity crowd of 60,000 for the match between Brazil and Argentina (Sunday 3 September, 4 - 5.45pm).

Islington Council's transport planning, parking enforcement, environmental protection and waste management services teams will be out in force for the match to ensure everything goes smoothly and fans get to and from the match safely and without disruption to the local community.

Cllr Terry Stacy, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Communities said:

"Previous matches have confirmed the careful plans we put in place with the club, Transport for London (TfL) and the police are working well.

"Again, public safety will be paramount but we will also be making sure disruption to local residents is kept to a minimum.

"The significance of the borough hosting the visit of two world class teams cannot be underestimated. Again, it puts the new stadium and the wider community benefits of the scheme as a whole in the spotlight.

I'm very proud of the legacy the council and the club have created together."

Keith Edelman, Managing Director of Arsenal FC said:

"We are very grateful for the foresight of Islington Council in supporting our proposals for Emirates Stadium.

"We have been able - due to the new stadium - to attract the Brazil Argentina match which is the most prestigious international match being played this weekend.

The match is being broadcast live across the world and will provide a great showcase for both Islington and Arsenal's new Emirates Stadium."
