Islington Council is consulting on its draft Islington Urban Design Guide (IUDG) from 18 August - 30 September 2006.<br><br>The IUDG provides design standards for development within Islington. Urban design is about ensuring public buildings and open spaces are pleasing in appearance and function properly. The guidelines will influence how buildings look and fit with their setting, the layout and organisation of buildings and public spaces, and the appearance of our streets. <br><br>Cllr Lucy Watt, Executive Member for Environment said:<br><br>"We all love living in Islington because of its special character. These planning guidelines are designed to safeguard this and ensure that new buildings fit in with their surroundings.<br><br>"I know that many residents have strong views about new developments in the borough and want them to enhance our streets and public spaces. The consultation is a great chance to have a say in how Islington looks and feels as it continues to develop over the coming years."<br><br>Copies will be available at the council's offices at 222 Upper Street (weekdays 8am to 6pm) and in public libraries. It will also be available on the council's website (www.islington.gov.uk/environment/planning).<br><br>Any comments should be sent in writing to Will Dorman, Conservation and Design team, PO Box 3333, 222 Upper Street, London N1 1YA, or by email to will.dorman@islington.gov.uk<br><br>Comments must be received by 5pm on 30 September 2006.
