Trading Standards warning on travel company

Date: 17-Aug-06 by charles dean

Orange Sun Ltd trading as Unbeatableholidays.com

Islington Trading Standards is aware of a high volume of complaints against travel company Unbeatableholidays.com which has been trading from Suite 212 Davina House, 137-149 Goswell Road, London EC1V 7ET.

The complaints concern travel and hotel bookings which have allegedly been paid for but not honoured. The company vacated its premises on the weekend of 12-13 August 2006 and has left no forwarding details.

People who have booked holidays through unbeatableholidays.com should contact the airlines and hotels concerned before travelling to find out whether or not they have been booked in.

Those wishing to register a complaint must call Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 or www.consumerdirect.gov.uk. Details will then be forwarded to Islington Trading Standards and The Metropolitan Police Fraud Squad (please let Consumer Direct know if you do not wish the police to have your details). There is no need to report the issue to Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) Companies Investigation Branch.

The company has no ATOL or ABTA bonding so customers are unable to get redress from these organisations. Customers seeking refunds who have paid by credit card may contact their credit card company for redress under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. The same entitlement to redress does not however apply to debit card or cheque transactions so in these instances customers should contact their banks to ask for their situations to be considered on an individual basis.

Islington Trading Standards advice to anybody booking a holiday is to pay by credit card for transactions over £100 and to check beforehand that the travel company is ATOL and/or ABTA bonded or has arrangements to ensure that payments made will be refunded in the case of insolvency.

Cllr George Allan, Executive Member for Customer Focus said:

"Our trading standards team are collecting information to help the police with their enquiries.

If you have purchased holiday or travel tickets from this company and not received them, please contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506."
