Islington children got a taste of jungle life, as they got to see, hear and touch a whole host of creepy crawlies from around the globe that are visiting Islington libraries this summer.
Snakes, centipedes and stick insects were among the star turns, together with their keeper, who told the children about these much maligned animals' lives out in the wild.
The visit by Vic Taylor, aka Mr Creepy Crawly, and his scaly friends to Central Library was part of Islington Council's summer programme of events for children and young people, which runs throughout the holiday period. The council's ten libraries put on around 50 events, many of them on the theme of this year's national reading challenge to get 4-12s reading in the summer - the Reading Mission. A fantastic blend of storytelling, music, puppets and creative crafts make the local library a great place for families over the summer.
Cllr Ursula Woolley, executive member for children's services said: "Events like these are great for keeping children engaged, learning and having fun during the long summer break. It gives them the chance to see or try something new, and with a whole range of activities from storytelling to meeting creepy crawlies, there should be something to interest everyone."
The event is just one of a whole host of trips, courses and activities on offer this summer to children in the borough's libraries, parks and open spaces.
