BSF shortlist announced

Islington Council have announced the shortlist of companies who will work with them to transform secondary school education in the borough. <br> <br>The three bidders, competing to become the Preferred Partner who will redesign, refurbish and/or rebuild the borough's eight secondary schools, are @One, Investors in the Community, and Transform Schools.<br> <br>The work is part of a multi-million pound programme of investment, which will see £130million of improvements over the next 5 years (2007-12), and dramatically shape the future of education in the borough. <br> <br>Building Schools for the Future will not only see substantial rebuilding and refurbishment of the school buildings, but a change in the way education is delivered. Technology will be at the heart of how the students learn, and proposals include that each student will have an individual learning account to develop and assist them to reach their full potential in whichever field they choose. <br> <br>Cllr Ursula Woolley, executive member for children's services, said: "This project really is a life-changing programme of investment, and I'm very pleased that we're nearing the time when we the work will begin. By working together with our partners, the schools and the students who will benefit, we will be offering young people in Islington an education fit for the twenty-first century."
