Local people found out what it feels like to drive while drunk and children learnt road safety from a puppet at Islington's Council's first Road Safety Day in Highbury Fields last Sunday 23 July.
And Charlie the Chicken was on hand to help raise awareness of road safety issues alongside the seatbelt safety sledge, the road safety puppet show and the drink drive simulator.
Islington resident Dawn Buckley was particularly impressed with the cycle surgeries offered on the day, and was able to have her son's bike fixed by the council's cycling officer.
She said: 'I really wasn't aware of the comprehensive service offered by the council in terms of cycle training and maintenance. I would encourage all cyclists and those thinking about cycling to contact the council to find out more.'
Cllr Lucy Watt, Executive Member for Environment and Regeneration, said: 'The first Road Safety Day has been a great success, and it's been extremely encouraging to see so many members of the community attending to learn more about road safety issues.
'Islington Council is very committed to making the borough a safer place to live and work, and we hope this day will become an annual event.'
In order to improve road safety in the borough, the council has been working with Safer Neighbourhoods Police, Greenspace, Transport for London, Children's Traffic Club, London Safety Camera Partnership, St John's Ambulance, Traffic Police, Living Streets and Road Peace.
