Green light for St Mary Magdalene Academy

A High Court judge today effectively gave the green light to Islington Council's plans for an all-through, Church of England sponsored secondary school on the site of the St Mary Magdalene Primary School on Liverpool Road, Holloway.<br><br>A hearing opened last week (19 July) in London's High Court to resolve a Judicial Review brought by local parent Hayley Powers against the independent adjudicator who upheld the legality of the school governors' decision to issue the primary school's closure notice.<br><br>Cllr Ursula Woolley, executive member for children and young people said:<br><br>"I am delighted for everyone who has worked on this project and especially for the children and their parents who have been looking forward to the new school opening in September 2007. <br><br>The judge's decision confirms the proper process was followed in bringing a new Church of England secondary school to the north of the borough.<br><br>We're already committed to transforming education in Islington, with more opportunities for each child and first class buildings and facilities for all secondary schools.<br><br>I want all Islington parents to be confident they can choose an Islington school for their child."<br><br>The new St Mary Magdalene Academy will open in September 2007.<br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br>
