Children get reading mission

Date: 10-Jul-06 by margery peddie

Islington's four to twelve year olds who want to follow in the foot steps of James Bond or Charlie's Angels, can visit their local library this summer and take part in a special reading challenge. They will be given free reading packs in the style of a secret agent's spy case. The pack will include puzzles, a fridge magnet, pens, and a bookmark. Information in the pack will also explain how children can join the challenge by:

Signing up to read six books of their choice;
Keeping track of their reading, and;
Writing book reviews.

Children who read all their books by 10 September will be awarded a 'Mission Accomplished' medal and certificate.
Staff in all the borough's libraries are looking forward to encouraging children with their reading by suggesting interesting books for them to try. Staff will also keep children and their parents fully informed about how they can get tickets for nearly 50 craft and storytelling events that will be taking place in libraries throughout the summer.

For further information about this year's Summer Reading Challenge, children and parents can visit their nearest library. They can find out where their nearest library is, by ringing contact Islington on 020 7527 2000 or by visiting the council's website, www.islington.gov.uk
