20 Whittington hospital staff are taking part in the Cycle 50% Club aimed at getting staff travelling to work by bike.
The innoviate scheme supported by Islington Council was developed by the Company of Cyclists. It provides employees with a bicycle, accessories, training, route planning and a 'cycling buddy,' everything they need to get them on their bikes!
Phil Rowe of the Company of Cyclists says, "The Cycle 50% Club has proven itself to be a great way of allowing people to try cycling to work, at no cost to them. Over 85% of people who have been on the programme so far have said that they are very likely to continue cycling to work at the end of the 4 week challenge period. People comment on how they feel fitter, have a less stressful and more predictable journey and how much fun it is. Employers also benefit from fitter, happier, more alert staff, who actually look forward to their journey to work, rather than simply enduring it, as well as reduced pressure on overcrowded car parking facilities."
Claire Moore of Whittington Hospital says, "We are really happy to be taking part in the project. It has been really well received by hospital staff and is a great boost to our travel plan."
The 20 staff members have promised to cycle for 50% of their journeys to work over the next month.
