A profitable day was enjoyed by all at Islington and Camden's 'Give and Take' day on Saturday 3 June at Our Lady's Hall.
Lots of people took the chance to clear out clutter from their homes and swap these items for things they wanted. Clothes, bric-a-brac, toys, books, CD's, bikes, plants, electrical equipment, household and garden equipment and furniture were just some of the things swapped as people just kept on giving and taking!
Councillor Lucy Watt, executive member for environment at Islington Council, said "It's great to see all the things that people would normally throw away being found a new home. Events like this are an opportunity to save valuable resources. As a society we throw away so much that is re-usable and this is a great opportunity for local people to re-use and re-cycle."
The Give and Take Day was the first community recycling event of its kind to be held jointly between Camden and Islington Councils. It was organised to promote the three R's - reduce, reuse and recycle.
The total weight of items received was 2780kg equilivent to 232 televisions or 185 lawnmowers or 70 fridges!
