Noise Action Week sees Islington Council launching a series of initiatives to reduce the impact of noise on the borough's residents.
Noise is a major issue for many people living in an increasingly 24-hour city. Problems arise not just from anti-social behaviour but also from thoughtless neighbours, pubs and clubs, building sites, unattended burglar alarms, dogs or even the hum of machinery.
Islington Council's Noise Service offers practical help for local people on how to cope with problems at home as well as providing a dedicated Noise Patrol team, who attend properties in response to late night problems.
George Allan, executive member for customer focus said: "Noise Action Week gives us an opportunity to meet with a cross section of residents and businesses, and help alleviate many potential issues. It also helps us promote awareness of the importance of noise control."
As part of Noise Action Week, this year running from Monday 22 to Friday 26 May, Islington Council's Noise Service will be rolling out a range of initiatives {see below} aimed at tackling noise issues as well as promotion awareness. The council's Noise Service can also provide a mediation service, which often resolves noise complaints to the satisfaction of residents and businesses.
Events during the week include:
Tuesday 23 May
Launch of a leaflet highlighting the problems associated with laminate flooring.
Wednesday 24 May
A forum on noise for licensed premises. This will give licensees a chance to find out more about how the Noise service sets conditions and how we check they will comply. There will also be a chance to discuss the smoking ban and new noise at work regulations.
Friday 26 May
A colouring competition for year 1 primary school children.
