Islington Council is encouraging you to get on your bike and win a brand new Brompton M-type, worth £500.
Whether you want to change the way you travel to work or get that little bit fitter now is an ideal time to dust off your old pushbike and get pedalling.
Cycling is a great way to exercise and increasing the use of bikes can make a huge difference to traffic and pollution in the borough. 6.2% of council staff and 2.4% of Islington residents already cycle to work.
All new and irregular cyclists have the chance to win a brand new Brompton M-type bike if they pledge to cycle two days a week for three weeks this Spring.
All cyclists entering will receive free cycling goodies to get them going. Free cycle training will also be available to ensure that they can get to and from work safely.
The competition runs from Friday 20 May to Friday 9 June. The winner will be awarded at the Green Business is Better Business networking event on Tuesday 13 June.
The closing date to register for this competition is Monday 15 May. To enter, please send an email to Kathryn.king@islington.gov.uk
Islington Council also encourages staff to cycle. There are 9 bikes available to council staff for work-related travel. The bicycles make it easier and faster to travel between council buildings or go on work related visits.
There are roughly 10 554 cycling trips made each day in the borough and the council's target for 2011 is 19 000- which is an 80% increase.
