Spotlight on Archway

Date: 24-Mar-06 by kitsy kinane

Over 1,400 special 'stubby' cigarette pouches were handed out as part of a recent clean-up campaign in the Archway area.

Giant cigarette and crisp packet men were on hand on the launch day to remind people not to throw rubbish on the street but to put it into the recycling or litter bins.

During the first week of the four-week spotlight, special clean teams removed graffiti, chewing gum and gave the pavements an extra good scrub.

New paving is also being laid at Junction road and new street benches will be provided behind the bus stop as well as extra trees being planted to spruce up the area. There are also plans to light up the Archway triangle.

The Archway campaign is part of the A1 Borough project to make Islington cleaner, greener and safer.
