Fish for keys at the A1 Garden of Light

Date: 13-Mar-06 by kitsy kinane

Local children fish for keys from the Key Keeper of Islington one of the costumed characters who will be entertaining at the A1 Festival of Light on Saturday 25th of March.

The Key Keeper, Mr Peacock, will be welcoming children and inviting them to plant their lanterns in the Garden of Light at the festival.

As part of the festival over 400 young people will form a Path of Light with a procession of lanterns and music along the A1 - to celebrate the past, present and future of the borough's main road. The procession will move into Highbury Fields where the young people will plant their lanterns in the Garden of Light to be viewed by the public.

A synthetic ice-skating rink will also be set up for the first time in Highbury Fields and the A1 Festival of Light is proud to present a list of star performances by the London's finest home-grown and international artists. The line-up includes:

5pm: London Urban Collective (UK)
6.05pm Dessislava Stefanova and the Dessibelles (Bulgaria)
6.40pm Mukka (Balkans/UK)
7.20pm Ethio Traditional Band (Ethiopia)
8.20pm Kasai Masai (Congo)

The festival is part of Islington's ongoing work to transform the A1 and make it a better place to live, work and study in.
