An exhibition of the proposals for the re-landscaping of Finsbury Square is due to open on Monday 13 March.
Cllr Bridget Fox, Executive member for sustainability, explains: "We want people to have access to high quality greenspaces throughout the borough.
"We now have a great opportunity to make Finsbury Square a better place to visit. We are working hard to make sure that any improvements benefit everyone. I would encourage people to come and look at the exhibition and give Planit feedback on their proposals."
The exhibition, which runs until Monday 20 March forms part of the consultation on the plans for the scheme submitted to Islington Council.
The proposals have been drawn up in close discussion with the Friends of Finsbury Square which includes representatives from the businesses around the Square, EC1 New Deal and Islington Council -and in line with the council's landscape brief.
Sue Yoe, Chair of Friends of Finsbury Square: "This design and consultation are the fruition of the last 18 months of work. We have looked at a variety of suggestions and have been working closely with the designers and Islington Council to develop a space which will meet the long-term needs of the business community, local visitors and residents in and around Finsbury Square. We believe that this is an excellent scheme and look forward to hearing other people's views and input."
The proposed layout will see an overall increase in open space. It will retain the existing bowling green - as requested by users of the space -and will include new lawned areas, trees and seating around the Square.
Designs for the greenspace have been drawn up by Charles Funke Landscape Architects following the council's support of a broader development scheme for an events space beneath the Square in July last year. This scheme was submitted by Planit Events and includes a striking, contemporary 14m high arch across the open space.
Hosted by Planit Events, the exhibition will be located on the South East corner of Finsbury Square. The exhibition will be open from midday to 6pm every day 13-20 March.
