Islington Council are offering residents an innovative way to check they are not missing out on some of the millions of pounds of benefits that are unclaimed each year.

The council, who have created a cutting-edge electronic ‘benefits calculator’ on their website www.islington.gov.uk, are holding a free workshop to show residents how to make sure they know about all of the benefits available to them.

The session will show residents to find out whether they can claim free school meals, pension credit, income support, council tax benefits, health benefits, child tax benefits and more.

Residents can also download and print relevant claim forms.

The web-based system, is just one of the many services now offered to residents online, and council staff will be on-hand to guide those attending through the easy to use service.

The seminar will take place at Finsbury Library, EC1 on Saturday 11 March, from 10am to 1pm. Residents can book ahead or just drop in on the day.

Cllr Jyoti Vaja, executive member for housing and community safety said: “We are determined that local people should get what they are entitled to. This online system can help people to cut through what often seems like a maze of information. Before, customers would have to book an appointment with an advisor in an area housing office. This web-based system means that it is much easier and more convenient for residents to claim the benefits they qualify for."
