Press are invited to join children, parents and staff from North Islington Nursery for a Mardi Gras carnival of costume and colour from 2pm on Tuesday 28 February at North Islington Nursery, Tollington Park.
The celebrations will include dancing, music, food and fun as children from the nursery celebrate Mardi Gras. The children have been learning about the culture and traditions behind Mardi Gras and are looking forwards to showing off their hand-made carnival costumes.
Learning about – and celebrating – other cultures and traditions is a key element of the programme at North Islington. The nursery also has events for Eid and Diwali.
Mardi Gras (‘Fat Tuesday’ in French), also known as Shrove Tuesday, Carnival, or even Pancake Day, is an annual festival that falls just before Lent. It traditionally marks the last opportunity for fun and feasting before 40 days of "self-denial".
