Over 150 community groups, charities and places of worship are now using Islington Council’s innovative Community Recycling Scheme to recycle their office waste.
The scheme, which offers a free weekly recycling collection for glass, cans and paper, is an easy and cheap way for the charitable sector to recycle.
Kate Moir, Office Services Manager at Shelter who were the 150 charity to take advantage of the council's free recycling service said: “We get through a lot of paper every week at Shelter and this scheme offers us a great way of doing our bit for the environment, and it's free! No wonder we're the 150th charity to join up.”
Bridget Fox, executive member for sustainability said: “We are recycling more in Islington than ever before and I'm pleased that we've just hit our highest recycling rate of 21.3%. We want to do more to make it easier for everyone. Schemes like this and our glass collection for local businesses are great ways for us to support and encourage recycling."
