The council’s recycling education centre – ‘i-recycle’ – just off Caledonian Road held recycling-themed competition for local children. Children in the borough aged 14 or under were invited to write in and tell the i-recycle team about what they recycle and how it saves the planet.
Daisy, who lives in Tufnell Park won the competition with her entry, “I recycle glass jars and bottles, cans, newspaper, cardboard, plastic bottles and paper. This means we can use more things over and over again and not as many things get buried underground.” Daisy also included a poster drawing with her entry.
Nadiya Ahmed, aged 10, from Grafton Primary School and Pamela Nyandu, aged 12 from Mount Carmel School each received a £10 book voucher and recycled stationary packs for winning their age group competitions (7-10 years and 11-14 years). . The winners’ classmates also received pens, pencils and rulers made from recycled materials.
The purpose-built i-recycle centre, which opened its doors on 7 October, has been developed in partnership with the Science Museum and features interactive displays, games and videos to teach local youngsters and adults how they can play their part in protecting the environment.
