Islington residents and businesses will soon have access to a new car club, with the recent appointment of Streetcar for on-street car club parking bays in Islington.<br><br>Councillor Bridget Fox, executive member for sustainability, said:<br><br>"Islington has the largest car club in the country and it's a service we are keen to keep improving. Car clubs are a great alternative for people who need a car occasionally but don't want the expense and hassle of car ownership. <br><br>“Streetcar are offering members a great deal. There’s no monthly fee, you get 30 miles free mileage each day and existing members will get free lifetime membership. <br><br>“I’m delighted with how the car club has taken off in Islington and we are looking forward to extending the new service and opening the car club up to new members."<br><br>Streetcar offer current car club members:<br><br>· no monthly membership fee<br>· a daily charge of £35 for a weekday<br>· low lifetime membership fee of £25 <br>· comparable usage rates, including 30 miles free each day or part of a day<br>· a user-friendly booking system <br><br>Streetcar are also offering existing lifetime members of CityCarClub free lifetime membership to Streetcar (value £25). <br><br>Streetcar will take over the management of the 23 on-street car club parking bays in Islington as of 1 April 2006, when the current contract with CityCarClub (formerly Smart Moves) ends. <br><br>For more information visit www.islington.gov.uk or phone Contact Islington on 020 7527 2000.<br><br>ends<br><br>
