They say that timing is everything, and with her old fridge on its last legs, local resident Merlene Geddes could not have picked a better time to win North West London Energy Efficiency Advice Centre’s Energy Saving Week prize draw, enabling her to spend £200 towards a new fridge.
Ms Geddes, from N1, entered the draw during Energy Saving Week (24 – 30 October) and along with a free low energy light bulb, she won the main prize draw – a £200 voucher for online energy efficient goods retailer, www.iguanadirect.co.uk.
The prize draw was part of the council’s strategy to promote energy efficiency in the home.
During Energy Saving Week the council promoted energy efficiency at a number of shopping centres within the borough, inviting shoppers to complete an energy efficiency questionnaire, providing free advice and low energy light bulbs.
Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive member for sustainability said: “The council is committed to a greener future for Islington and a better quality of life for local people. We have a fantastic source of information at the Energy Centre on Upper Street, which can provide guidance and support to people locally on how they can cut their bills while helping save energy for the future.”
