Islington Council is delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Curtis as its new Director of Finance.

Mike Curtis, currently Assistant Director of Adult Care Services, Hertfordshire County Council, will be leading Islington’s finance department from 1 March 2006.

Islington continues to improve services to local residents year on year and was recently awarded three stars by the independent Audit Commission in its 2005 Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA).

Mike joins Islington with 19 years experience in four different borough and county councils and in the private sector. He was Director of Finance at Broxbourne Borough Council before moving to his current post at Hertfordshire.

His new role at Islington Finance department will include providing a range of financial services and looking after a number of corporate financial budgets. The service employs about 300 staff and provides accountancy services and financial advice corporately and for eight of the council’s service areas as well as giving strategic financial advice.

Islington Council Chief Executive, Helen Bailey, said: ‘I’m delighted to welcome Mike to Islington and believe his leadership of our finance team will lead to greater achievements for Islington and help us to continue on our path of continuous improvement.’

Executive Member for Resources, Councillor Arnie Gibbons, added: "I would also like to pay tribute to John Jones, who has provided outstanding leadership and sound management of our finances as interim director since April 2005. John's wide experience and expertise has been of enormous benefit to Islington during the appointment process."

On his new role Mike Curtis commented: ‘I am really pleased to be joining Islington Council which is a high profile organisation going from strength to strength. I look forward to helping the Council improve its performance still further and deliver excellent services for the people of Islington.
