Islington Council

Committee gives go ahead for Tollington West CPZ

Date: 15-Nov-05 by Charles Dean

Residents and businesses are to get priority parking, after Islington approved
plans for a controlled parking zone (CPZ) in the Tollington West area, this week.

On Monday night (14 November), the north area committee agreed to introduce the new parking zone, after a meeting packed with residents who spoke in favour of the parking controls.

Every resident and business in the borough has been now consulted on the introduction of a controlled parking zone. Following the introduction of CPZs on 7th November in Tollington, Junction South and Hillrise West, 90% of the borough now has parking prioritised for local residents and businesses.

Feedback from previous CPZ areas has shown that residents welcome the benefits of a CPZ. As well as easier parking and improved road safety there are less obvious improvements, such as a greater sense of personal security, less traffic and cleaner air.

The Tollington West CPZ will operate between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday.

“We want to ensure that residents and local businesses get priority for on-street parking, rather than commuters”, said Cllr George Allan, executive member for customer focus.

More and more people can see for themselves the benefit of these schemes and are backing their introduction in Islington. Preparations will start immediately and we hope to have the zone operational in March." added Cllr Allan.

ENDS
