Islington is set to invest £130 million to completely rebuild or refurbish all secondary schools over the next few years.<br><br>Highbury Grove, Holloway and St Aloysius schools have been identified as the first three schools to benefit from the multi-million-pound cash boost. The money is largely is being provided by Building Schools for the Future programme. <br><br>Islington Council is calling for residents’ views on the draft planning guidance for the future redevelopment of Highbury Grove, Holloway and St Aloysius schools.<br><br>The period of consultation on the draft planning guidance for the three schools will run until 2 December. Copies of the draft guidance are available from the council’s Municipal Offices (222 Upper Street) or by logging onto www.islington.gov.uk.<br><br>Cllr James Kempton, executive member for children and young people said: “We want to raise standards in our schools still further. Rebuilding or substantially refurbishing every secondary school in Islington is a key part of this. Pupils deserve the very best facilities: classrooms, laboratories, IT and that is exactly what we intend to provide in the coming years. This is the most ambitious building programme that the council has undertaken on its schools and we want to make sure that we get it right.<br><br>"This is the first stage of consultation and want to know what you think of the draft plans. It is intended that a reports will be presented to the councils area committees in January 2006.<br><br>The planning guidance is a document that sets out a vision for future development. It informs the community and potential partners about the council’s planning polices and objectives for redevelopment.
