It's a fitting tribute to the commitment of all the staff currently making Islington one of the most customer-focused councils in London."

The Eyes for Islington scheme and the A1 Borough project received particular commendation, with D R Molyneux, the Charter Mark assessor, saying: “There is a clear commitment to build and improve on what has already been achieved. The strength of the service lies in their customer focus and the dedication, commitment and flexibility of all staff. Of particular note are the Eyes for Islington and the lead role staff have taken in the A1 Borough project.”

The Eyes for Islington project, which is a scheme for volunteers to play an active role in identifying problems on the street, has been recognised as best practice by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

The A1 Borough is part of a 10-15 year regeneration strategy for the area which aims to unite the community by transforming the A1 with eight new public spaces.

Charter Mark is a registered certification mark, owned by the Office for Public Services Reform in the Cabinet Office.
