Residents will be able to help shape the future redevelopment of Archway at a public exhibition and consultation event to be held at Caxton House (129 St John’s Way, Islington N19 3RQ) on Saturday, 5 November, 10am–2pm.

The event will be run by the Building Design Partnership, which is leading the multi-disciplinary team appointed by Islington Council to work on the Archway Development Framework. The framework will set out the future plans for Archway and the design principles to underpin the redevelopment.

There will be several opportunities for the community and other key stakeholders to have input into this process, the first of which will be this exhibition and consultation event. The exhibition will present for public comment the issues that have been identified that will influence the Archway Development Framework and the possible scope of options for redevelopment.

Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive Member for Sustainability, said: “The Rethinking Archway consultation earlier this year indicated that there was overwhelming local support for some kind of redevelopment at this important site.

Now residents and others are being asked to get involved in this scoping stage of the development framework. We want people to come to this event to meet the consultants and express their views about the future of Archway. This is a wonderful opportunity to transform Archway for the better, after years of neglect. The more people who take part, the better the results for everyone.”

The formulation of the Archway Development Framework will be done in two stages.
BDP will use the feedback from this consultation event (along with the results of previous consultations) in the development of a scoping document which will set out the scale and types of development required for Archway.

The second stage will expand on the scoping document to develop masterplan options for the Archway development framework.

A further round of consultation will take place early in 2006, so that the final master plan options can be adopted by the council in spring 2006.

ENDS
