Date: 18-Oct-05 by Nicola Quinn

As part of national Energy Saving Week (24–30 October), the North West London Energy Efficiency Advice Centre will be touring London boroughs in the north and west to show people how to save money, energy and the environment.

The theme of Energy Saving Week is ‘Saving Your 20%’. In line with the Government’s goal of a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2010, the public is being encouraged to cut their household use of gas and electricity by 20% (see www.saveyour20percent.co.uk).

The centre is based in Islington, where its advice team will start and finish their roadshow, which will also cover Ealing, Hounslow, Harrow and Barnet.

As always, the team will be providing free, independent and impartial advice on energy efficiency to both save money and help fight climate change through reduced use of fossil fuels.

There will also be opportunities to enter a prize-draw by completing a Home Energy Check. Prizes include a £200 voucher to use at the online energy efficient retailer www.IguanaDirect.co.uk. All entrants will receive a free low-energy light bulb.

Islington’s Executive member for sustainability, Councillor Bridget Fox said: “Use of fossil fuel energy in our homes is responsible for 28% of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions. Carbon dioxide is the leading cause of climate change, so it is important that we all learn to be more energy efficient. That’s where the energy advice centre can help. ”

“People need to keep warm and healthy in their homes, but there are still many ways we can cut down our energy use, from putting on an extra jumper and turning the heating down a degree, to using low-energy heating or lighting and improving insulation.”

To find out more about the activities during Energy Saving Week or to get free energy efficiency advice, call 0800 512 012, visit the North West London Energy Efficiency Advice Centre at 159 Upper Street, Islington, or e-mail energy.advice@islington.gov.uk.

The North West London Energy Efficiency Advice Centre roadshow during Energy Saving Week:

· Monday 24 October, 10am–4pm, Islington
The roadshow will be launched at the North West London Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, 159 Upper Street, Islington N1.
