Islington Council has been announced as the host of the 2006 Green Fleet Awards, to be held at Arsenal's new state-of-the-art Emirates Stadium.<br><br>Islington staved off fierce competition from other councils, demonstrating the progress and ambition that the council has for greening its fleet of vehicles.<br><br>The event will feature an exhibition day for suppliers of green fleet technology and an award dinner for successful entrants into categories such as ‘Public Sector Fleet of the Year’.<br><br>Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive member for sustainability, said: “I am delighted Islington has been chosen to host the 2006 Green Fleet Awards. This is a great opportunity to showcase Islington’s top-notch green fleet initiatives as well as the borough’s new Emirates Stadium.<br><br>“Greening our fleet is currently a high priority for Islington – we have a number of initiatives underway including a vehicle replacement program, hybrid technology analysis, utilisation of LPG vehicles, Oxygen scooters, and G-Wiz electric cars.”<br><br>The 60,000 seat Emirates Stadium is currently being constructed and is due for completion in summer 2006. The stadium will be the new home ground for Arsenal Football Club. <br><br>The Green Fleet Awards recognise public and private sector achievements in green transport implementation and technology. They are intended to recognise groups who are actively helping to reduce the impact of climate change and provide cleaner air for the community.<br><br>ENDS
