Date: 10-Oct-05 by Kate Barlow

Islington council is launching a new information guide designed to reduce the number of residents hit by parking fines.

100,000 copies of ‘The essential guide to parking’ have been delivered to every household in the borough as part of the council’s commitment to make parking as simple as possible.

The 16 page guide' explains the difference between residents' parking areas and business bays, and why special parking restrictions apply outside school gates, in bus lanes and on Arsenal FC matchdays.

Councillor Steve Hitchins, leader of the council said;
“People often tell us that the rules are not easy to follow. We want to make sure that isn’t the case in Islington. We want residents to understand our parking rules and understand why we need to operate a firm but fair system. I would like to encourage anyone who has a query about parking to read the guide or to call us for advice.”

The council has done a lot of work to improve parking services during the last year to ensure our policies are firm but fair.

This year alone the council has put an end to clamping after residents made their objections to it clear. They have improved signs and lines to make sure they are clear. Have asked parking attendants to wear high visibility jackets and introduced safe parking outside of schools gates.

As a one-stop-shop of advice, information and contacts about all things parking, it is designed to be an easy read that residents can store away for when they might need advice about parking.

Any resident or business with questions about parking should contact the council on 020 7527 2000.
