New show celebrates life of country’s first feminist

‘Wollstonecraft Live!’ is giving you the chance to be a character in the life of Britain’s first feminist.<br><br>Mary Wollstonecraft was author of ‘A Vindication of the Rights of Woman’, wife of radical philosopher William Godwin and mother of Frankenstein author Mary Shelley.<br><br>Her incredible life is being celebrated in ‘Wollstonecraft Live!’, a new interactive show commencing on 21 September at Newington Green.<br><br>The show, supported by Islington Council and presented by Fragments & Monuments, is site-specific theatre using the very church Wollstonecraft attended, in the area in which she lived in the 1780s.<br><br>Uniquely, three actors will all play the title role and extras will be chosen from the audience as the story of Wollstonecraft’s life unfolds using her writings and grief stricken narration of her husband.<br><br>Councillor Bridget Fox, Islington’s Executive member for sustainability, said that: “The show’s use of Newington Green is really pleasing because it is an ideal backdrop and will let audience share the award-winning redevelopment of the green.”<br><br>Tickets are available from £5 through The Cochrane Theatre Box Office on 020 7269 1606 (Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm) or from www.wollstonecraftlive.com<br><br>Performances will be held on 21 September at 7pm and on 22 to 24 September at 7pm and 8.30pm at the Unitarian Church, Newington Green, London N16 then continues on Newington Green.
