Kazakhstan delegates welcomed to Islington

Islington’s state-of-the-art i-recycle education centre recently wowed international delegates when they visited the Household Reuse and Recycling centre <br><br>Delegates from Kazakhstan – including the Vice Minister of Finance, Aidar Krifkhanov, and other senior officials – were on a fact-finding mission to find out about the council’s experience of public-private partnerships (PPP). They were particularly interested in the principles and technical side of PPPs and how they are delivered in Islington and the UK.<br><br>A presentation, delivered by the council, highlighted the close partnership between Islington and Arsenal on the current Arsenal redevelopment project.<br><br>Kamala Sekar from UK Trade and Investment said: “We were amazed at the extent of stakeholders’ involvement in the strategic development of the project and the excellent partnership between Arsenal and the council in looking after their fellow citizens”.<br><br>UK Trade and Investment is a government organisation that supports both companies in the UK trading internationally and overseas enterprises seeking to locate in the UK.<br><br>Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive member for sustainability and Councillor Arnie Gibbons, Executive member for resources, were on hand to show the delegates the facility used to transfer North London’s waste here in Islington. <br><br>The delegates also had the opportunity to explore the council’s innovative i-recycle centre, experiencing interactive educational games about waste and recycling developed in partnership with the Science Museum.<br><br>Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive Member for Sustainability said: “I’m very pleased that the delegates chose to visit Islington as part of their tour.
