The Nag’s Head has undergone a mini face-lift recently, thanks to smart new traders’ kiosks. Five licensed street traders based at the Nag’s Head and on Seven Sisters road now have sparkling new kiosks courtesy of Islington Council’s A1 Borough project.

The kiosks have replaced the traders’ makeshift stalls and mean they no longer have to spend three hours each day setting up as they did with their old stalls. They have also provided the traders with extra security.

The five traders, who sell newspapers, flowers, fruit and vegetables and underwear, even had the opportunity to visit the kiosk manufacturers and choose their own fixtures and fittings.

Tony Harris of Trini’s Fruit and Veg, said: “My family has had a stall here since the 1930s but this will be the first winter we’ll be undercover out of the rain. A lot of our customers have said how smart-looking the stall is too.”

Executive member for sustainability, Cllr Bridget Fox: “The kiosks have made a welcome contribution to improving the street environment. This project is a great example of how the council is working with the community to improve the A1 for everyone.”

The kiosks are easily recognisable as they display the Islington Council logo and also have provision for the council and their partners to advertise special events on noticeboards fixed to either side.

The £47,000 project was delivered in partnership with the Nag’s Head town centre manager, Joyce Pollaya, Transport for London and with cooperation from the Marks and Spencers store in Holloway Road.
