Islington Council was quick to the scene after Essex Road flooded following a burst water main shortly at around 10.45am on Monday 5 September.<br><br>The council ensured that road users, pedestrians and drivers suffered minimal disruption and that the highway was safe for use, working together with Thames Water, the police and the fire brigade to control the situation efficiently and effectively.<br><br>The main was isolated at about 12.30pm. Water supply was restored to all shops and homes later that afternoon.<br><br>Cllr Bridget Fox, executive member for sustainability:<br><br>“The situation was quite dramatic for a time due to the size of the burst - it was a 36 inch main.<br><br>But everyone pulled together magnificently and by the end of the day the situation was well under control.<br><br>We have sought assurances from Thames Water that the burst pipe will be repaired as quickly as possible to minimise disruption road users and those who live and work on Essex Road."<br><br><br>ENDS
