Islington wins award for greener transport

Islington Council’s commitment to creating a greener future for the borough was rewarded with the council receiving Transport for London’s ‘Sustainable Transport Borough of the Year’ award on 13 July.<br><br>The delivery of the council’s comprehensive and integrated package of sustainable transport measures sealed the borough’s victory for the coveted award.<br><br>Some of Islington’s other sustainable transport projects include:<br>· the development of a sustainable transport strategy<br>· promoting the development of workplace travel plans<br>· organising promotional events such as the sustainable transport film, car free day, bike week cycle commuter challenge and other road safety events<br>· walk to school week<br>· participating in the London-wide Good Going travel awareness campaign steering group<br><br>Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive member for sustainability, said: <br>“This is a fantastic achievement, and recognition that Islington Council is leading the way on making our borough a greener place to live. This award recognises work on everything from helping get our kids to school safely to our flagship A1 Borough project. This is a feather in the cap for Islington’s charter mark winning street management service, from which every resident will benefit.”<br><br><br>ENDS
