3 new CPZs go live 18 July<br><br>Three new Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) will go live ahead of schedule next week bringing the total number of CPZs in Islington up to 21. That means 87% of Islington’s streets are protected for residents wanting to park near their homes. <br><br>Residents in St Georges North and South and Holloway East will see the schemes start on July 18 2005. <br><br>The new CPZs had some of the highest levels of approval from local residents and businesses of any Islington CPZ consultation to date - with 80% supporting the scheme in Holloway East, 69% in St Georges North and 74% in St Georges South.<br><br>The areas were consulted in November and December 2004 to see if residents and businesses wanted the parking protection offered by a CPZ. The most popular choice of operating hours in St Georges North and South was from 8.30am – 6.30pm Monday to Friday and residents in Holloway East wanted additional Saturday morning controls between 8.30am – 1.30pm.<br><br>The Council listened to residents, who wanted the zones implemented as soon as possible, and the Council's Executive responded by bringing them forward in the revised programme agreed in June.<br><br>Line painting and signing of the areas has been completed and the council will continue to improve the local environment by removing unnecessary bollards and street clutter. Staff have been busy advising residents how to apply for permits so they can be ready in time for the new schemes.<br><br>Councillor George Allan, executive member for customer focus said:<br><br>“CPZs not only give residents a better chance to park near their homes, they improve the quality of the street environment for everyone.<br><br>We moved the implementation date forward by four months, to respond to residents' concerns. <br><br>The three new zones mean Islington Council remains on track with London's largest and swiftest CPZ consultation programme."<br><br>Residents and businesses who have not yet purchased parking permits or visitors’ vouchers can call 020 7527 1338 or by downloading an application form from the council’s website at: www.islington.gov.uk/Transport/RoadsAndParking/Parking/<br>ParkingYourVehicle.<br><br>The three CPZs will be reviewed after six months to see if ensure residents are happy and any issues can be resolved.<br><br>ENDS<br><br><br><br><br><br><br>Three new controlled parking zones (CPZs) in St Georges North and South and Holloway East will become operational on July 18.
