Saturday's event is a great way to celebrate responsible dog ownership and help everyone enjoy our parks this summer. So why not come along, bring your dog and see if he or she is a winner!"

Clarissa Baldwin, Dogs Trust Chief Executive, comments:
“Unfortunately, it is the minority giving the majority of responsible dog owners a bad name. It is every owner’s responsibility to clean up after their dog so that everyone, including dogs, can enjoy our public parks, beaches and open spaces.”

Research by Groundwork in the EC1 area revealed that 70% of residents think that dog fouling is a problem and 61% of dog owners were observed not picking up after their pets in parks and open spaces in the area.

EC1 New Deal for Communities will be funding a number of projects to encourage dog owners to clear up after their pets, including new dog bins, working with schools and providing plastic poop scoop bags.

Tanya Broadfield, from EC1 New Deal, comments:

"Dog fouling is not just an unsightly mess on our streets and in parks and open spaces, it poses serious health risks to all of us. Children are more likely at risk because they play in areas where dog fouling can be present. The solution is to clean up after your dog, place the mess in a nearby dog or waste bin or take it home for disposal. If you are caught not cleaning up after your dog you will receive a £50 fine.”

ENDS-

Photo call
11am on Saturday 2nd July 2005 at the Radnor Street Open Space, Radnor Street EC1.
