***Photo Opportunity***Photo Opportunity***Photo Opportunity***Photo Opportunity***<br><br>21 Islington adult learners will celebrate success on 1 July when they are awarded certificates from learning body GRO for completing courses in childcare and teaching.<br><br>GRO (Giving Real Opportunities) Islington is a consortium of learning providers across the borough working with learners who are traditionally excluded from learning and as a consequence suffer long term unemployment.<br><br>Courses were completed at The Parent House, Winton School, Killick Street N1. A registered crèche is offered alongside the activities at Parent House which are funded through the London Development Agency (LDA) until March 2006.<br><br>The GRO course programme forms a foundation for work or further learning - between April 2004 and March 2005, 143 people undertook training and 21 found work. It is expected that by March 2006, 285 people will have undertaken training - and of these, 58 successfully found work.<br><br>Certificates will be presented by Deputy Mayor Anna Berent at Hugh Cubitt Community Centre on Collier Street, N1.<br><br>Cllr Meral Ece, executive member for health and adult social care said:<br><br>"Improving the skills base and employment circumstance of the borough's residents is a key part of regenerating the borough, bringing learners and their families into community life.<br><br>I'm delighted that with the support of adult education professionals, so many learners confidently completed the programme."<br><br>The Parent House has been in operation for three years and has won two NIACE awards for Adult Learning.<br><br>***Photo Opportunity***Photo Opportunity***Photo Opportunity***Photo Opportunity***<br><br>Press are invited to the prize giving ceremony on 1 July between 1.45 to 2.20 pm at:<br><br>Hugh Cubitt Community Centre<br>Collier Street<br>N1<br><br><br>ENDS
