Better Care - Islington's new magazine for carers

Full-time carer, Josie Brown was at the Holloway Road shopping centre during Carers Week to launch Islington’s magazine for carers and their clients.<br><br>Better Care in Islington aims to make information for people in long-term care and their carers more accessible. The format puts relevant health, housing, mental health and social services news for carers into one easy-to-read 24-page magazine.<br><br>Josie said: "As a full-time carer it can be hard to keep up with everything going on in Islington. Better Care in Islington not only tells you what’s happening, it gives you a number to call, which saves you so much time. And it’s a good read too!"<br><br>Cllr Meral Ece, executive member for health and adult social care said: "Islington's carers do a tremendously important job and it's often undervalued. We want to recognise their contribution and support them. We are always looking at better ways to reach them - Better Care helps us do just that."<br><br>This special ‘focus on carers’ edition is jam-packed with news and information about services and initiatives for carers. The magazine was launched to coincide with National Carers Week, June 13 – 19.<br> <br>Many of the ideas for articles came from individual carers around Islington and local voluntary organisations such as Islington Carers Forum who provide support for all carers in Islington and Centre 404 Family Support who provide support for parents and carers of adults with learning difficulties. <br><br>Articles include information on how to get a parking space in Islington as well as interviews with Josie Brown about her experiences as a lifelong carer of her son who has learning difficulties and with Clive Brown, a carer support worker, who works with black carers across the borough. <br><br>If you would like a copy of Better Care in Islington call 020 7527 8153 or 8157.<br><br>ends<br><br>Editors Notes<br><br>1.
