On 2 July, the council's road safety mascot - Charlie the Chicken - will be helping Islington's Deputy Mayor Anna Berent and the road safety team raise awareness of the free safe cycing courses available to kids this summer.<br><br>The council, along with Charlie the Chicken, will be handing out free cycling information and ‘goodie’ packs to promote safe cycling. The upcoming free cycle training courses aim to provide the skills and experience necessary to cycle safely on the road. <br><br>Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive member for sustainability, said: “Young people in Islington care about our environment and the council is committed to encouraging them to cycle for their health too. Cycling is a cheap and environmentally-friendly way of getting about and children who cycle regularly enjoy improved health and fitness, become more independent and gain greater road sense." <br><br>The safe cycling course will be offered to pupils in years 5 and 6 and is a combination of on-road, off-road and theory training, coordinated by qualified instructors trained to new national standards.<br><br>The exhibition stand will be at Nag’s Head shopping centre on Saturday 2 July from 10am to 2pm.
